The idea of a clown motel all started when Clarence David died in a fire in 1942, leaving his large clown collection to his children Leona & Leroy. They opened The Clown Motel in 1985 next to the cemetery where their father is buried and ensured all 150 of their father’s clowns were on display. Over the years, the Motel changed ownership to Bob & Deborah Perchetti and finally to its current owners the Mehar Family. Adding to this already expansive collection, the current owners have added over 2,000 additional pieces of clown memorabilia to the site.
As if clowns are not scary enough, there have been reports of dark silhouettes, disembodied voices, footsteps, and knocking. Most notably, on ‘Ghost Adventures’ a large clown unexplainably moved its hand off its leg.
