Shepton Mallet Prison

$160.76

Join Cross Country Paranormal as we embark on a trip to the UK! In 1624 it was decided that there was a need for another House of Correction and Shepton Mallet was decided upon as the location for this addition Gaol. Corn(e)hill House was purchased one year later from the Rev. E Barnard for the sum of £160. During the early years, the House of Correction consisted of rather primitive conditions. Prisoners were not necessarily separated by the seriousness of crime committed, and often men, women and children would be held together. The poor conditions and the lack of a wage being paid to the gaolers resulted in lax discipline, and promiscuous and drunken behavior. Primitive sanitation led to regular outbreaks of diseases such as gaol fever. By the 1900s the prison population started to decline and was eventually closed in 1930 until the start of WWII when it reopened as a military prison and remained that way until 1966 when it was once again converted to a civilian prison until its final closure in 2013. With such a long, rich history there is its reported share of notable paranormal activity. There have been reports of apparitions seen, doors slamming on their own, people being touched, disembodied voices and footsteps. Many people have reported feeling ‘negative energy’ in the prison’s B Wing but the jail’s former chapel, later converted into a gym, and the prison’s C Wing all have their own eerie atmospheres. Some visitors even get sick and there are numerous cold spots. Experience this legendary location yourself on October 18, 2023 from 7:00pm – 3:00am GMT for only $150 per person with a maximum of 20 people. No refunds.
